Samsara Detailed Description |
NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE TO U.S RESIDENTS WHILE IN U.S. WATERS. SAMSARA is a RINA classed expedition motor yacht with an unrestricted navigational notation. She was commissioned in 2017/18 in Fort Lauderdale. She was designed to MCA/Lloyds Class 100A1 by noted naval architect John Overing. Samsara is an extremely efficient, stable, and safe boat due to her full displacement, hydrodynamic efficient, round bottom, steel hull (LR steel, 8 -16mm) and the lightweight marine grade aluminum superstructure. Samsara was designed for the worst of inclement conditions, with positive righting inertia after a full 90 degree knock down, and in addition she has an idyllic roll period of 6.5 sec.
The keel was laid July 2003, the hull, superstructure, mechanical/plumbing fit out was built by the leading shipyard/defense contractor in China, CSSC Huangpu Shipbuilding. All work was completed under Lloyds supervision. (Every weld is flawless!). Kirschstein Interior Designs of London was used for the interior design which is a traditional dark stained North America cherry. The first and only owner bought Samsara from Maxi Marine late 2018 and shipped her to Fort Lauderdale for final commissioning.
SAMSARA’s (2) 3406 Caterpillar deep sump main engines (605hp/825 Kw) are coupled to Twin Disk gear boxes (MG 5114DC) with Parker PTO’s, 4inch QuaTech shafts, DuraMax seals, turning 50” Bird-Johnson nickel/alum/bronze 5 blade propellers assure un-compromised propulsion reliability. Rounding out the engine room equipment are two KILOPAK 45kw generators (John Deere engines/Stanford Gen), Headhunter MSD (TW-200B) QUANTUM (QT-60 w / zero speed stabilizers) two NACHI steering pumps, AQUA AIR (16 tons AC & heat), Quincy (air compressor) are all arguably best in class. Aft of the ER in a separate watertight compartment, is located ship’s electrical room complete with Lloyds/RINA class Atlas Marine Systems. The Atlas TecPower split buss, three phase electrical panel also has a generator synchronization/seamless transfer feature. The Atlas ShorPower Marine Frequency transformer/inverter is located within this watertight compartment. The SHF will automatically connect to any supply source worldwide, (from Japan’s 100VAC 50Hz to USA 480VAC 60Hz and everywhere in between) and provide clean, stable and reliable power for the yacht (3 phase, 208VAC 60Hz). This is especially important due to ever-increasing regulations regarding the use of onboard diesel engine generators while docked at a marina. Noise and air pollution caused by these generators, coupled with increased operational and maintenance costs, make the use of the SHF frequency converter a must for those that choose to wander farther afield. Across to port from the ship’s electrical room and also accessed via the swim platform is located the ship’s engineer’s cabin with en-suite head. This cabin is also a perfect place for the temporary housing of visiting guides, naturalists, pilots, etc. SAMSARA was meticulously designed by Overing Yacht Design, which included tank testing. She is the second hull in the series and has several sister ships in various sizes plying the oceans of the world (LOA’s from 80-150ft. 25-40m). Her steel hull affords huge integral tankage for all fluids. SAMSARA moves through the water effortlessly which is evident by the lack of wake at +7 knots. The technical spaces (engine, electrical, pump rooms and bilge/void spaces) are all designed and built for safety /serviceability and reflect the dead serious commitment to the vessel’s proven ocean going, long range, expedition pedigree.
SAMSARA has just returned to Fort Lauderdale after completing her 16,000 mile maiden voyage (2020/21). The epic journey over two transits of the Panama Canal and the west coast of North/Central America included the Columbia River Gorge, the San Juan Islands, the Sea of Cortez, the Canadian inside passage, and months of fishing /crabbing/ exploring the Alaskan wilderness. Samsara’s world class social distancing capabilities are undisputed! She traveled for weeks during the year of Covid without encountering another vessel, and only sharing the waterways with countless whales, dolphins, and other marine life.
Island Gypsy, a long-established trawler builder, purchased the Maxi Marine name, and completed the vessel in 2017. SAMSARA accommodates eight guests in four cabins consisting of a master suite, VIP suite, starboard twin, and port double, all with entertainment centers, Sony television screens, and en-suite bathroom facilities. In addition, there are quarters for five crew.
The saloon comes with 2 three-seater settees, 2 armchairs, coffee tables, a bar, fridge, and an entertainment center including a 55" Sony television screen and a Yamaha stereo surround sound system. Forward is a dining area with seating for six guests and storage cabinets for china, glassware, and cutlery.
Alfresco entertainment and dining are available on the large aft deck offering a U-shaped settee, table, and chairs along with port and starboard stairs to the wide swim platform. More outdoor living is close at hand on the flybridge, with a bar, fridge, two L-shaped settees, and two tables, all sheltered from the sun by a custom aluminum hard top.
5 year Rina survey completed in March 2021 with Marshall Island PYLC.
Twin Caterpillar 600hp diesel engines give her a trans-Atlantic range of 4,530 nautical miles at her cruising speed of 10 knots. She is fitted with Quantum zero speed stabilizers.
In 2019 Samsara had comprehensive ship systems inspections, service, and upgrades. A partial list is below.
